Residential FAQ’s
How to Measure For Spray Foam Insulation
For subfloor insulation, determine the area to be insulated in square metres (length x width). You also need to confirm there is a minimum of 400mm clearance from beneath the bearer to the ground.
For Wall insulation, determine the height of the internal walls plus the perimeter measurement of house plus lowest and highest points from ground to eve of house to indicate any elevation /slope which would require scaffolding.
For Roof insulation determine the area of ceiling in square meters plus indicate the pitch angel of the roof.
For ceiling insulation determine the area of the ceiling footprint in square meters.
How Does Spray Foam Insulation Assist with Air Permeance?
Spray foam insulation creates a continuous air barrier, sealing gaps and cracks. This prevents air infiltration, maintaining consistent indoor temperatures and enhancing energy efficiency by reducing the workload on heating and cooling systems.
What is an R-Value?
R-value measures an insulation material’s resistance to heat flow. Higher R-values indicate better insulating properties. Spray foam insulation can provide a very high R-value, whilst providing superior thermal resistance compared to traditional insulation due to its ability to create an air seal.
How Does Spray Foam Differ from Fibre Insulation?
Spray foam differs from fibre insulation in its application and performance. It expands to fill gaps, creating an airtight seal, while fibre insulation can leave gaps, DOES NOT create an air seal and will deteriorate over time. This lack of an air seal can REDUCE efficiency of the overall performance by up to 50%.
