What Is
Spray Foam
SprayIT Solutions is a family-owned business with decades of experience in the spray foam industry. Based in Carrum Downs, Victoria, we have a dedicated team operating three custom-built vehicle-based spray rigs and two non-vehicle-based reactors. Our equipment can apply polyurethane foams (both open and closed cell formulations) and various other membranes such as polyurea and aliphatic coatings, catering to projects of any size on any site.

Asked Questions
What is R-Value?
An R-value is the measure used by the Australian insulation market to test an insulation product’s level of thermal resistance. The higher the value, the more effective an insulation material is at keeping heat out of a building in the summer and trapping it during the winter.
It is very important to note that, while the R-value does measure heat transfer from one material to another, it’s not a guaranteed measure of an insulation material’s performance.
How Does Spray Foam Insulation Assist with Air Permeance?
Spray foam insulation creates a continuous air barrier, sealing gaps and cracks. This prevents air infiltration, maintaining consistent indoor temperatures and enhancing energy efficiency by reducing the workload on heating and cooling systems.
Does Spray Foam Insulation Help With Vapour Permeance?
Not all spray foam products are moisture vapour permeable, however some are. These are air tight but still allow moisture to permeate through the foam and out of the building. Depending on your application we will recommend the best foam for your building.
How to Measure The Effectiveness Of Your Insulation?
There are 3 factors to consider when measuring the effectiveness of your insulation.
- R-Value: Contrary to popular belief, not all materials with the same R-value will perform equally. Some materials will give off gas over time or lose their thickness and durability. Gaps in the materials when installed can also reduce its R-value by as much as 50 percent. Fortunately, Spray Foam® spray polyurethane foam (SPF) won’t diminish over time.
- Vapour Permeance: Vapour permeance measures the rate at which insulation materials diffuse moisture. Unlike R-values, a lower perm rating means better performance. Ideally, insulation—like Spray Foam®—should allow for a strong flow of moisture through the building while reducing any heat flow that comes with it. This is important for fighting off condensation and the growth of mold in walls and ceilings.
- Air Permeance: If not properly installed or durable enough, any insulation material will lead to air pockets, allowing air to permeate through the area and allow for condensation. This can lead to future issues like the growth of mold and mildew. Fortunately, Spray Foam® provides advanced moisture and air management, allowing air only through mechanical ventilation and making your home heathier, quieter and more energy efficient.
